Journey To My Self ~ An Interview with Author and Visual Artist Karen Klein

A note from Annie: Karen Klein was one of my Inkswiggler clients and I found her Inner Shaman story and experience fascinating. I worked with Karen on developmental edits and exploring publishing options for her story. In the end, Karen decided to self-publish, which gave her complete creative control over this very personal account of her spiritual journey that features her writing and images. (The last two images in this post are from the book.)

To find out more or to purchase a copy of Journey to My Self, visit Karen online: http://www.karenklein-author.com

AnnieWilderBlog_KarenKlein_JourneyToMyself

Annie Wilder: Tell us a bit about yourself. (Where you’re from, where you live now, what you do for work/fun…)

Karen Klein: I’m living in Sarasota, Florida now. I moved here from Minneapolis three years ago. Originally I’m from Columbia, Illinois. I’m a photographer/painter/author/seeker and manager of the Unity of Sarasota bookstore.

AnnieWIlderBlog_KarenKlein

AW: You’re a visual artist ~ what inspired you to write this book?

 KK: An Inner Shaman guide appeared to me during my meditation sessions, starting in the fall of 2011. He led me into a realm that was complex and dynamic. I found the events and imagery so compelling that I wrote down the details just so I would have a record of them. Being a visual artist, I assumed I’d eventually make something creative from the experiences I recorded. But they never evolved the way I thought they would. After I moved to Sarasota and discovered all the new age energy here, I became aware of the vortex, the light workers, the healers, the readers, the quartz sand at Siesta Beach…it was a very new and different environment, and I loved it! I made new friends, many who had moved here not sure why they chose Sarasota, but once here, they felt the same shift I did. The church I frequently attended offered a Spiritual Memoir writing class. Not having any idea what to expect, or why exactly I thought that was a good idea, I showed up and the first assignment gave me an opportunity to put my Inner Shaman visits to words. I had never thought about writing it, but obviously felt guided to do so. Once I accepted that “medium” for my adventure, I never looked back!

~~~
AW: Who or what is the Inner Shaman? Does everyone have one?
KK: Well, I didn’t know I had one so I certainly can’t say everyone has one, but perhaps if they allow themselves to let their imagination and intuition free flow, they would discover their own guide. I knew I wanted to access my great-grandfather, and apparently he was willing to be available for me in the form of my Inner Shaman.
~~~

AW: In Journey to My Self, you take the reader along into a fantastical realm of helpers, guides, and occasionally, shadows and danger. Can you provide a short summary of this realm and what it offered you in your search for spiritual empowerment?

KK: It felt like a Spielberg movie. It was very surreal and very beautiful. I had no preconceived idea of what I would encounter, ever. Everything was new to me, even though things there were familiar — like the wood at the entrance door that immediately reminded me of the wood from the barn on the farm where I was raised. Inside the light was a beautiful warm golden color, except on a few occasions when I felt really low energy. Then it was like someone turned the lights off and it was flat, grey. However, there were no lights — there was no roof or ceiling. It just opened to the universe. Every visit was a gift from my Inner Shaman — either a new archetype, a new experience; and they all became cumulative.

KarenKlein_She-Saw-Memories

AW: From which guide or archetypal energy in this realm did you learn the most? Which lesson was the most difficult? Did you have a favorite guide or archetype?

KK: I learned from all of them. They responded according to needs that I usually didn’t know I had. Because I had always been taken by the stories I heard about my great-grandfather, Karl Otto, I was beyond happy to have him appear as my Inner Shaman. When Clarity appeared, it was a very significant and scary occasion. I was sooooo happy to see my beloved Grandma Klein. And the experience with Shadow was also very powerful and eventually humorous. Difficult lessons that I kept repeating were the fear and anxiety that I kept trying to get rid of. The experience of unwinding the barbed wire of fear from me was very powerful, a terrific visual. And, I adored Polly the Pig.

~~~
AW: What was the correlation between your physical world life and the realm of the Inner Shaman? Did your life change as a result of these experiences? If so, how?
KK: It changed in that I became aware of the power of my inner resources and how cut off/removed from my Self that I have always been. I relied on my Inner Shaman visits to help me understand and navigate my physical-world life. I felt I occupied my Self more completely.
~~~

AW: What would you recommend to those searching for a deeper sense of self or for an active and empowering spiritual life?

KK: For me it was helpful to be in an environment that supported my search. I am sure it is a unique experience for anyone who awakens. There are many books and teachers available; many opportunities to explore, which is what I had done. Eventually I carved out my own personal path but only after I searched and searched, knowing that my hunger had not been satisfied. For me the magic, the surreal environment, the trust in my great-grandfather, the powerful visuals made it all compelling.KarenKlein_Awaiting-Eros

AW: Anything else you’d like to add?

KK: Gratitude. Everyday I pause in gratitude. And, in a recent visit I took my Journey to My Self book to each and every totem and archetype/symbol/spirit/energy in my Inner Shaman’s world, and I gave them all a book in gratitude for becoming part of me.

Report From A Crystal Ball Reading

AnnieWilderBlog_CrystalBall_EricMoen

A belated but sincere huge thank you to psychic intuitive Eric Moen and all my guests at the Midsummer Season Crystal Ball Divination event last week. WOW.

I had the feeling it was going to be an interesting night, and it was. Eric did a fantastic job of providing in-depth and accurate readings to everyone present. It was really fun to see Eric peering into the crystal ball and describing images that he then interpreted. The readings went much deeper than I had expected and Eric was a generous and unhurried reader ~ very focused and direct. My guests were almost all haunted tea party and schoolhouse friends who have come to many spirited events in the past. (It was good to see you all again!)

Two guests approached me afterward to tell their readings were “spot on.” And I did see people nodding vigorously while their friend or family member was getting a reading. A few times tarot card images came through, which gave Eric specific insights into the response, since he reads tarot cards.

The night started with Eric sharing the story of how he acquired his crystal ball and how he established a working relationship with it. Eric introduced the crystal ball, whose name is Thurston, a grand and masculine old-fashioned name that suits its energy. (The ball is named after the great magician Howard Thurston, who lived from 1869 to 1936.)

Eric said his goal was to provide information that could be used in a positive and empowering way. He said divination revealed possibilities and patterns, but that each of us has free will and can use the information gleaned from a reading to make choices that empower our lives.

Guests were asked if they wanted a general reading or had specific questions. Eric described what he saw, even while images were forming, and included all of us in his processing of the visual information. For example, when the first image that appeared for one guest kept morphing but never completely manifested into a solid image, he described what he was seeing, then asked her if she was in a state of transition. (She was.)

For my friend Steve, one of the first images Eric described was one eye, looking up. Eric told Steve that the image represented him somehow. It didn’t occur to Steve till the end of the night that the unusual image represented his love of astronomy and hobby of backyard stargazing with a telescope.

Just one more example: My guest Diane, wanting to clear her mind, decided to think about my cats. Right away, Eric told her he saw a big cat. First we all laughed, as Diane’s tee shirt had a large cat on it! Eric didn’t miss a beat and said something like, “Not that one.” That’s when Diane told us she had been thinking about my cats in order to not focus on anything from her life.

I highly recommend contacting Eric for private or group readings. (PM me for his number if interested.) Eric Moen and Thurston will definitely be part of future Spirited Schoolhouse events!

New Annie Wilder’s Spirited Schoolhouse Event: Your Soul’s Wisdom: Past-Life Regression with Psychic Intuitive Chanda Parkinson

AnnieWilderBlog_CheckerboardFloor_1-e1461173748712-768x1024

I’m very pleased to announce a new Annie Wlder’s Spirited Schoolhouse event: Your Soul’s Wisdom: Past-Life Regression with Psychic Intuitive Chanda Parkinson.

The event is coming up quickly, on Saturday, July 16, from 1:00 ~ 3:00 PM, and we already have people signed up, so please register right away if you’d like to be part of this. (Sign up by emailing me: annie@anniewilder.com.)

Chanda offered a past-life regression for me and several members of my family earlier this year and it was amazing ~ very positive and powerful. Many of you have seen my dab my eyes while listening to the very moving messages at the spirit message circles. At this event, I literally cried as I recalled a life as a young orphan boy in Europe (sometime in the 1700s – 1800s, I believe).

My clothes were caked with dirt and grime and were literally stiff from never being washed. I slept on hay in a horse barn and had only survived after my mother died because the cook, whose face I can still clearly see, saw to it that I was fed. My impression was that my mother in that lifetime had been a household servant and had died when I was a few years old. When I was a young teenager, I was sold to a man to work on his farm. I can also still see myself leaving with the man on a dirt road and turning back to look at the cook, who was watching me leave with tears running down her face. I ran away from the man’s farm a few years later because he was so cruel. I found work on a ship, shoveling coal into a furnace or stove. I died in that lifetime when the ship sank, but my main thought as I died was that I was glad I had run away and experienced freedom. Chanda asked us what the message was from that life life to ourselves in this life, and my message as the young man to myself today was, “Don’t give up.”

Everyone at the event had an entirely different and very detailed story or narrative, with the exception of one guest who takes quite strong medication. Non of us had known what to expect going in and we all agreed it was vivid and illuminating.

I do recommend that guests come with a friend, due to the emotional intensity of the experience.

Report From a Haunted Tea Party

AnnieWilderBlog_1920sFranklinSewingMachine

I love all the haunted tea parties, but this one was extra special.

We had not only three guests that are highly skilled psychics, (sisters Suzanne Worthley, Lisa Eckman, and Suzanne’s daughter Phoebe) but three guests whose great grandparents, grandparents, and great aunt and uncle lived in my house from the 1920s through the 1960s. (Sisters Barb and Kathy and their cousin Bill.) Between the stories that Barb, Kathy and Bill shared about their memories of Leon and the house, and Suzanne and Lisa’s impressions of the spirits and residual energies, we had a fascinating time!

To share just a few of the things I learned at the tea: I found out that Leon and his wife used to sit on the side porch, while the upstairs tenants had use of the front porch. It was Barb and Kathy’s grandmother Liz, not their aunt Gertude, who used to sit at the upstairs window and watch to make sure kids didn’t leave church early ~ and who called their parents if they did!

Suzanne took a look at pictures of both Liz and Gertrude and said that although they were sisters, their energy was very different. Suzanne picked up on Liz’s sharp intellect and serious nature and on Gertude’s warmth, kindness and sense of whimsey ~ she said Gertrude had a love of flowers and fairies. Gertrude used a conch shell as a doorstop in the parlor, a practice I followed after I heard the story from Barb a few years ago.

AnnieWilderBlog_ConchShell

Suzanne also said that Leon and Liz had a deep friendship, based on mutual respect. (There was a period of time when Liz and her husband were renting from Leon and his wife.) I found this interesting, because I have heard from more than one psychic that Leon has a female companion in the spirit world who is not his wife but was a good friend of his during their physical lives. I had figured that it must have been a family member, since friendships between men and women who were married to other people seemed to have been pretty unusual in Leon’s time. Suzanne said Leon respected Liz’s intellect, which resonated with me as a characteristic that Leon, who was very traditional, would value. (Leon once told psychic Echo Bodine that she “came across like a man,” meaning she was very direct. I got the impression that although Leon didn’t think of directness as feminine, he did respect it.)

Last, two things: Bill gave me a photograph of Gertrude and her husband Ted, which I am very happy to have. (I will share it after I make sure it’s all right to post.) And, after Barb told me a few years back that the guest room closet (with a big window) was her grandmas’ sewing room and happy place, I said I was going to put my sewing machine in there. (I do already have an antique sewing table in the closet.) On Monday this week, I came home and found the sleek and beautiful, steampunk-ian  Franklin sewing machine pictured here on my back porch, with a note from Barb, saying it belonged to her grandma Liz and she wanted me to have it. I am thrilled and honored, of course.

AnnieWilderBlog_FranklinSewingMachine_Wheel

I was intrigued by the Egyptian symbolism on the sewing machine ~ my son told me that it was probably from the 1920s, as that was when King Tut’s tomb was discovered and there was kind of a worldwide craze about it. I looked online and found the Franklin sewing machine and it IS from the 1920s. That would explain the unexpected drama of ancient magical symbols on an important, but common, household machine.

I called Barb and let her know that I will take good care of her grandma’s beautiful sewing machine and that I see it as a permanent part of my house and its story.

Tea Parties, Crystal Ball Readings & Paranormal Investigations, Oh My!

AnnieWilderBlog_ TeaTable_2 copy

Tea parties and crystal ball readings and paranormal investigations, oh my! Not to mention three radio/podcast interviews….

This June is filled with spirited events and appearances for me ~ hope you can be part of them, as a guest or listener! Getting ready today for the season’s first haunted tea tomorrow, June 4 ~ and what a tea party it will be!!

Guests include my friends Suzanne Worthley and Lisa Eckman, sisters who are both highly skilled intuitives and energy workers. Also present will be my friends Kathy and Barb (another set of sisters) and their cousin Bill, whose great-grandparents, grandparents, and great aunt and uncle all lived in my house over the course of nearly 40 years, from the 1920s through the 1960s. Kathy, Barb and Bill’s family overlapped slightly with Leon’s time here. (He bought the house in 1963.) They have shared stories of their family’s time in the house that are now part of my tea parties stories and will be included in my next book.

My friend Steve R. is bringing his team in for a paranormal investigation on June 10. Steve can be seen in a video on my website from 2010 when he was with a different paranormal group (which has since disbanded).

I will be interviewed by Paranormal Talk Show on June 14, and by my friend Kevin Hale and crew from the Shooting from the Lip on July 1. Still working out a date for the third radio appearance, which will be on Spaced Out Radio. (Will post time and other details for these appearances closer to the date, plus the info will be on my website later today.)

Wrapping up the month will be the brand-new Midsummer Season Crystal Ball Divination with psychic intuitive Eric Moen on June 30. I’m really excited about this event and we have some very cool guests signed up already. There are still seats available, but please sign up soon if you’d like a spot!

AnnieWilderBlog_HouseCloseUp_ByLisaFaibault_2016

Will post reports on all June’s spirited events and happenings.

As a side note, it seems that the house spirits are interested in all the activity ~ at least, I am aware of their presence and sense their positive and curious attention. I’m really hoping that Kathy, Barb, and Bill’s family spirits drop by for tea tomorrow!

Cover Reveal: Loyd Auerbach’s Psychic Dreaming

AnnieWilderBlog_PsychicDreamingCover_Small

In Annie Wilder Literary Agency news: Check out this gorgeous cover for Psychic Dreaming, a revised and updated edition of famed parapsychologist Loyd Auerbach’s classic title. My friend Kevin Brown designed the cover, which is perfect for the book.

SO excited about this! This will be the first book released by one of my literary agency clients and I couldn’t be more pleased. If you’re into the paranormal at all, you’ve probably read Loyd’s books, articles, and interviews, and seen him on dozens of TV shows.

I’ve been a fan of  Loyd’s since his days as a columnist for FATE magazine and am happy to be working with him on reissuing his classic titles as well as pitching some new books.

Psychic Dreaming will be released in April of 2017. I’ll post more details about the book and an interview with Loyd closer to the release date.

My thanks to Llewellyn, Kevin Brown, and acquisitions editor Amy Glaser!

Christopher Moon, Paulette “Momma” Moon, and the Ghost Box in the Parlor

AnnieWilderBlog_ChrisPauletteAnnie_Selfie

Had a lovely visit last week with my Annie Wilder Literary Agency clients (now friends) psychic medium team Chris Moon and his mom Paulette. They came up from Colorado to wrap up edits on their forthcoming book (more on that in a moment) and be filmed for the 2016 Halloween episode of Life to the Max.

AnnieWilderBlog_LifeToTheMaxShoot_In Parlor

Chris was the first person to work with the infamous “Frank’s Box” also known as a Ghost Box or Thomas Edison’s Telephone to the Dead. (Yes, THAT Thomas Edison!) Frank’s Box was the precursor to what are now standard tools of the trade for paranormal investigators, the Schack Hack and the Ovilus.

Both Chris and Paulette are extremely gifted mediums ~ in fact, before they even turned on the Ghost Box, they were picking up names of spirits who lived and died in this house. I have never written about three of the spirits they named and the fourth, if I mentioned him at all in my books, had a pen name. They also shed some light on a longstanding mystery that followed almost exactly the narrative provided by another psychic friend of mine (also never written about and rarely spoken about to anyone but a few of my family members). If I am able to verify the information in some way, it will be included in my next book.

AnnieWilderBlog_PaulettePsychometry

And speaking of books, I am pleased to announce that Chris and Paulette have written a book describing  their fascinating encounters with a variety of spirits and inter-dimensional beings using the Ghost Box. The book’s final title has not yet been decided, but it will be published by Llewellyn sometime in 2017. Will definitely keep you posted on this project!

AnnieWilderBlog_Chris Moon+Paulette_InParlor

Will also let everyone know the date and time when the Life to the Max episode will air this fall. The reporter for the night was WCCO’s award-winning journalist Liz Collin, which was really an honor. We had quite a bit of spirit activity during the shoot, and it was during the filming that two of the previous owner’s names came though. (First and last names.) If the clip stays in the final piece, you’ll see how shocked I was when I realized what had been said.

Also, for those of you familiar with EMF meters, ALL the lights were lit up for approximately 10 ~ 15 minutes. (For those unfamiliar with EMF meters, I am told this almost never happens, even for just a minute.) Another paranormal team that came to my house had a similar experience with their EMF meter. The video from that night that is on my website, “Ghost Busters: The TIPS Crew Investigates Annie Wilder’s House” ~ Life to the Max Show, 2010.

Mother’s Day Spirit Message Circle with Intuitive Medium Linda Cora

AnnieWilder_Blog_FloweringCrab_BloomsFarewell copy

In Spirit Message Circle News, my friend, intuitive medium Linda Cora, did an amazing job of delivering messages from guides and loved ones in spirit for the Mother’s Day Circle.

I’ve hosted spirited events for about a decade, and I’ve found that each event has its own energy and lessons or illuminations. As usual, the spirit sisters let us know they were present by turning the light off and on a few times. There were encouraging and even humorous messages of love, support, and encouragement. (For example, two or three friends/family members in spirit advised guests to pursue their dreams/current business ideas and to believe in themselves.)

I got an absolutely spot-on message from our sweet dog Cherry, who crossed over to the spirit side of life two years ago. Linda announced that Cherry let her know that she was happy, she no longer had arthritis and could run and play—and that Dudley (my husband) had a new girlfriend! I laughed and let everyone know that Dudley DOES have a new girlfriend—our youngest cat Sylvie, who we refer to as Dudley’s girlfriend because she so obviously adores him. I assured Cherry that she is still in our hearts and we miss her every day.

Linda also delivered healing messages to two guests in the midst of difficult situations ~ one of which involved losing a family member to suicide.

Linda took a bit of time to talk with this guest, who was obviously in a great deal of pain. She also followed up after the event with a detailed and thoughtful email on the topic to all the guests that had shared their email address with her. While Linda was working with the guest who had lost a family member in this terribly sad and difficult way, I could feel the supportive energy of the other guests in the circle. As happens so often at my haunted tea events, I was filled with tremendous respect and appreciation for the wonderful, smart, and caring people that are my guests. We ended the evening with some prayers/positive thoughts for those in need and by burning sage.

My thanks to everyone who attended the Mother’s Day Spirit Message Circle.
